Award Ceremony 2023

Dr. Falk Pharma AG has awarded a prize for innovative research in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology for the third time.

The prize was presented at a ceremony on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Prof. Jan Hendrik Niess from the Clarunis – St. Claraspital and University Hospital Basel was selected from top-class applications by an external panel of experts from 5 Swiss centers of gastroenterology and hepatology for his work «IL-20 subfamily cytokines impair the oesophageal epithelial barrier by diminishing filaggrin in eosinophilic oesophagitis». He ans his research group showed thet IL-20 cytokines can impair the epithelial barrier in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), which is mediated by mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) and underlines the importance of the esophageal barrier in EoE.
